2D Animation - Video Game Development

Train under a professional animator with 25 years of experience creating games and animation for major properties and studios including Captain Underpants, Disney, and SpongeBob SquarePants and more.

This is not a casual class. It is a structured, production-based program where students build a fully playable 2D game demo using their own original artwork beginning with conceptt sketches and designs.

​Students will create a polished, playable, one-level video game demo, 2D platformer or fighting game,complete with a boss fight, a dynamic animated start menu, and UI. All this while learning the 12 principles of animation through real hand-drawn 2D animated techniques, no puppet rigs! You will be developing character actions like walk, run, attack, block, and more. You will design enemies, build immersive worlds with parallax backgrounds, and bring everything to life with special effects and atmospheric detail. Software used will include Blender and Unity as you design your game prototype for your, PC, Android or Apple platform.

Most programs teach animation or coding separately. This program combines both into a single pipeline.

What Students Will Create

- A playable 2D platformer level - A fully animated main character - 2 to 3 enemy types - A boss encounter - UI system - Start screen - Sound effects

Program Structure

30 weeks total, 2 semesters. Weekly class 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Classes begin on Wednesday, July 1st, and are held once per week at the same time. 

​

$5,865 dollars per semester.

 What truly sets this program apart is mentorship. Students receive hands-on guidance from both an animation instructor and a coding instructor.

​

Student's will learn coding fundamentals and best practices, but more importantly, you'll learn how to think production, how to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and confidently find your own solutions so that when you complete the course, you can expand upon your demo or create new independent projects.

Animation Lecture: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Lab: 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM

Code Lecture: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Lab: 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Semester 1 = Week 1 to Week 15​

Semester 2 = Week 16 to Week 30
